EAST WHITELAND TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the closure of Route 29 (Morehall Road) in both directions between General Warren Boulevard/Atwater Drive and Great Valley Parkway. The closure, which affects East Whiteland Township in Chester County, is due to necessary sinkhole and pipe repair.

The decision to close the road came after pipe damage and pavement settlement were discovered earlier today. As PennDOT engineers assess the extent of the damage and develop a plan for full repair, the road will remain closed.

During this closure, motorists traveling northbound and southbound on Route 29 are directed to use alternative routes. These include Phoenixville Pike, Route 401 (Conestoga Road), and Swedesford Road. Importantly, access to the Pennsylvania Turnpike entrance will still be maintained despite the closure.

PennDOT advises drivers to allocate extra time when traveling near the affected area as slowdowns are expected to occur due to the detour. The duration of the closure and the subsequent repairs are dependent on weather conditions.

The safety of motorists is PennDOT’s primary concern. Therefore, the department encourages drivers to heed traffic updates and respect the detour signs until the highway can safely reopen.
