WEST CHESTER, PA — Roadway construction will continue next week on a major Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project aimed at enhancing safety and traffic flow along the busy Business U.S. 322 (High Street) corridor in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township.

According to PennDOT, overnight and daytime lane closures are planned as crews progress on intersection improvements. On Monday, July 14, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure with flagging will be in place on High Street between Miner Street and Norfolk Avenue. Additional lane closures are scheduled from Wednesday, July 16, through Friday, July 18, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on High Street from Miner Street to Rosedale Avenue. PennDOT urges motorists to allow extra travel time, noting that significant backups and delays are expected. All work is weather dependent.

The $2.6 million federally funded project targets a range of upgrades designed to boost pedestrian and vehicular safety. Crews will install new traffic signals at University Avenue and Sharpless Street, along with upgraded signal supports and equipment. Additional improvements include retroreflective backplates on existing signals, new LED luminaires, pedestrian countdown timers at intersections, curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, and drainage enhancements.

Beyond intersection updates, the plan features comprehensive full-depth pavement restoration, culminating in complete roadway resurfacing. These changes aim to provide smoother traffic flow, improved pedestrian crossings, and enhanced overall safety throughout this heavily traveled section of Chester County.

Marino Corporation of Skippack, Pennsylvania, is leading the construction efforts. Physical construction is expected to continue into winter 2026.

Local residents and commuters are encouraged to stay alert for changing traffic patterns and adhere to posted signage as work progresses along this critical corridor.
