Lane Closures Ahead at U.S. 202 and Route 926 Intersection

Traffic Alert

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Construction activity will intensify over the next two weeks at one of Chester County’s busiest crossroads as PennDOT continues a multimillion-dollar effort to ease congestion and reduce crashes at the intersection of U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and Route 926 (Street Road).

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that roadway construction will proceed Monday, February 16, through Friday, February 27, in Thornbury and Westtown townships under a $2.9 million safety and traffic flow improvement project.

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each weekday, motorists will encounter a lane closure with flagging operations through the intersection. Drivers should expect backups and delays as traffic is directed through the active work zone.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The project calls for installation of a new southbound right-turn deceleration lane on U.S. 202 at Route 926, as well as an additional eastbound left-turn lane on Route 926. The eastbound approach will be converted to a double left-turn configuration designed to improve throughput and reduce intersection conflicts.

Additional safety enhancements include upgraded signalization, Americans with Disabilities Act curb ramp improvements, and milling and paving operations.

The U.S. 202 and Route 926 intersection carries significant daily traffic, serving commuters, commercial vehicles, and regional travelers. Even limited daytime lane restrictions can ripple through surrounding corridors during peak periods.
