CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Drivers traveling through the busy intersection of U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and Route 926 (Street Road) should expect delays over the next several weeks as construction continues on a project designed to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes in Thornbury and Westtown townships.

- Dates: Monday, March 9 – Friday, March 27

PennDOT said weekday lane closures with flagging will be in place at the intersection while crews continue work on the $2.9 million improvement project. Motorists traveling through the area should expect backups and intermittent delays during the daytime work hours.
The construction will add a new southbound right-turn deceleration lane on U.S. 202 at Route 926 to help reduce congestion and improve turning safety.
Crews will also install an additional eastbound left-turn lane on Route 926 approaching U.S. 202, creating a double left-turn configuration designed to move traffic more efficiently through the intersection.
Additional improvements include signal upgrades, new ADA-compliant curb ramps, and milling and paving operations.
PennDOT said the project also includes monitoring provisions related to The Westtown Inn, located in the northwest quadrant of the intersection. The historic property was determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places in September 2015.
Road-Con Inc. of West Chester is serving as the general contractor on the project, which is funded with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Construction is expected to be completed this summer.
Drivers are urged to plan extra travel time and consider alternate routes during the work hours.
