How PennDOT’s $83.6M U.S. 422 Upgrade Will Impact Your Commute

Travel Restrictions

NORTH COVENTRY TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of construction projects on U.S. 422 in parts of Chester and Montgomery Counties, beginning Monday, May 5. Drivers should prepare for lane closures and a detour as crews conduct geotechnical test borings and implement traffic shifts as part of PennDOT’s efforts to improve the roadway.

From Monday, May 5, through Friday, May 9, lanes in both directions on U.S. 422 between Keim Street and Grosstown Road will close from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. During this time, crews will perform geotechnical borings.

Later in the month, from Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 16, the eastbound U.S. 422 ramp to Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) will close between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM for additional borings. Traffic will be detoured eastbound to Keim Street, where drivers can exit to westbound U.S. 422 and rejoin Route 100.

Additionally, lane closures with flagging will occur on High Street between Heritage Drive and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township on Monday, May 5, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Crews will place barriers and shift traffic lanes as part of PennDOT’s extensive $83.6 million reconstruction project to enhance 2.1 miles of expressway and replace bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.

Motorists are urged to plan for delays and extra travel time when navigating the work zones. All scheduled construction is weather dependent, and updates will be provided as needed.
