High Street Safety Upgrades Trigger New Lane Closures in West Chester

Lane restrictions

WEST CHESTER, PA — Roadway construction will continue next week along Business U.S. 322 (High Street) as PennDOT advances a wide-ranging safety improvement project spanning West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township.

PennDOT said a weekday lane closure with flagging will be in place Monday, November 24, and Tuesday, November 25, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between Barnard Street and University Avenue. The restriction will allow crews to install lighting conduit. Officials warn that backups are likely and urge motorists to allow extra travel time. All work is weather dependent.

The project aims to overhaul several intersections along the High Street corridor, including new traffic signals at University Avenue and Sharpless Street. Additional upgrades will include retroreflective backplates on existing signals, modern LED luminaires, pedestrian countdown timers, curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, drainage improvements and full-depth pavement restoration leading to a complete resurfacing of the roadway.

Marino Corporation of Skippack is leading construction on the $2.6 million federally funded project, which is expected to be completed in winter 2026.
