SOUTH COATESVILLE, PA — Drivers in Chester County should prepare for months of detours and daytime delays as utility construction forces the closure of First Avenue in South Coatesville Borough beginning in June.

Pennsylvania American Water said First Avenue will close weekdays during daytime hours while crews complete utility improvement work in South Coatesville Borough.
During the closure, passenger vehicles will be directed to use Business U.S. 30 (Lincoln Highway), Route 82 South (Strode Avenue/Doe Run Road), Strasburg Road, and Youngsburg Road.
Truck traffic will follow a longer detour using Route 82 North (First Avenue), U.S. 30 (Coatesville Downingtown Bypass), Airport Road, Business U.S. 30 (Lincoln Highway), Route 82 South (Strode Avenue/Doe Run Road), Strasburg Road, and Youngsburg Road.
Local access will remain available for residents and businesses within the work zone.
Drivers should expect backups and slower travel near the closure area, particularly during weekday daytime hours. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, remain alert for changing traffic patterns, and seek alternate routes whenever possible.
PennDOT noted that all scheduled construction activities remain weather dependent and could change if conditions warrant.
