Fund for Women and Girls Opens Core Grants Application: $4.2 Million Awarded Since 1997

The Fund for Women and Girls

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Fund for Women and Girls has announced the opening of its biennial Core Grants application this week. Since its inception in 1997, the Core Grants program has contributed over $4.2 million to 94 nonprofit organizations in Chester County. These organizations are dedicated to advancing the lives of women and girls, ensuring they have the necessary resources and opportunities to flourish.

The grant application period runs from December 4, 2023, to January 19, 2024. Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)3 status are eligible to apply, provided their missions and programs closely align with The Fund’s advocacy priority areas. These encompass economic empowerment of women and girls, violence prevention and safety, as well as reproductive and general health.

The grant awards will range between $5,000 and $15,000, and are open to nonprofits primarily based in Chester County that predominantly serve women, girls, and individuals with lived female experience. All awarded Core Grants will cover a two-year period, spanning 2024 and 2025.

Applications will be evaluated by the Core Grants Committee, a group of community members who undergo a months-long educational curriculum. This includes exploring trust-based philanthropy, nonprofit operations, grantmaking best practices, and current community needs based on The Fund’s Fourth Edition Blueprint Report. This report is an in-depth research study on the state of women and girls in Chester County.

Once grant determinations are made, Core Grants Committee members often become advocates, volunteers, and even board members of the nonprofit organizations they have evaluated. This strengthens the community’s understanding of the nonprofit sector and the needs of women and girls.
