PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division is appealing to local communities to step up as volunteer bell ringers for this year’s Red Kettle Campaign. This call to action comes in response to a notable decrease in volunteer hours, which has led to a dip in donations, even as requests for assistance from families in need continue to grow.

In the fiscal year that ended in September 2022, there was an 11.7% decline in collective volunteer hours compared to the previous year. This drop resulted in a shortfall of $506,123.49 in in-person donations, reflecting the significant impact of volunteer efforts on fundraising.

The Division also experienced a 15% decrease in Red Kettle holiday fundraising revenue in the 2022 fiscal year, with funds falling from $3.5 million the previous year to $3.038 million.

Despite these challenges, the Salvation Army remains committed to its mission of providing vital services and support to communities in need. Funds collected at Red Kettle sites are reinvested into local Salvation Army programs and services, having a lasting impact throughout Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware during the holiday season and beyond.

Community members who wish to lend their support can sign up to volunteer at Red Kettle openings at their local Salvation Army locations. Details on how to register can be found on the Division’s website.

For those who prefer to contribute digitally, online donations can be made at The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division’s Virtual Red Kettle.

With the holiday season fast approaching, every act of generosity counts. Whether by volunteering time or making a donation, community members have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
