COATESVILLE, PA — Four Chester County volunteers removed nearly 90 pounds of roadside waste from a four-mile stretch of Lieds Road on Oct. 4 as part of an Adopt-A-Highway cleanup organized by Dr. Shri Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The volunteers collected six large bags of trash along the roadway near 997 Lieds Road, according to the nonprofit organization, known as DSNDP.
The cleanup adds to a broader Pennsylvania effort that DSNDP reports has now included 44 Adopt-A-Highway drives involving 399 volunteers and about 676 volunteer hours.
Those Pennsylvania cleanups have collected 510 bags containing nearly 7,650 pounds of waste, according to the organization. DSNDP has also completed a tree-planting initiative in the state.
The nonprofit began conducting cleanliness and sustainability programs across the United States in July 2022. Its programs include Adopt-A-Highway, Adopt-A-Park, Adopt-A-Beach, Adopt-A-Street and Adopt-A-River projects.
Nationwide, DSNDP reports working with 19 states and 80 cities through 24 environmental and community programs. The organization attributes the removal of more than 79,305 pounds of trash to the work of 5,220 volunteers.
Its environmental activities also include tree planting and conservation projects across 15 states and 39 cities. DSNDP reported completing 500 environmental initiatives across the United States and Canada in 2025.
The organization also conducts blood and plasma donation drives and other public-health and humanitarian programs in the United States and Canada.
DSNDP describes its environmental work as inspired by Dr. Shri Appasaheb Dharmadhikari and Dr. Shri Sachindada Dharmadhikari and the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” or “The world is one family.”
