NEWARK, DE — Newark police say officers responding to a reported burglary in progress last week encountered a dramatic scene that led to the arrest of a city woman and the unraveling of what authorities describe as a broader alleged pattern of behavior.

According to the Newark Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:53 p.m. on January 16 to the 500 block of Winterthur Lane after receiving a call reporting a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers located and took into custody Dominque Johnson, 31, of Newark, at the residence without further incident.

Police allege that Johnson attempted to gain entry into the home after banging on the door and then throwing an outdoor statue through a window, causing damage to the property. Officers said the alleged actions prompted immediate intervention to secure the scene and ensure the safety of those involved.

Further investigation revealed that the incident was allegedly connected to an ongoing stalking case involving the same victims. Police said the case originated in another jurisdiction, where Johnson is alleged to have engaged in similar conduct.

As a result of the investigation, Johnson was charged with attempted burglary in the first degree, two counts of stalking, and criminal mischief. All charges are allegations.

Johnson was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court #2, where bail was set at $20,000 cash. Police said she was subsequently transported to the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution pending further court proceedings.
