WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested a 22-year-old man, Malik Purnell, on allegations of gun and drug offenses. The arrest is the result of an investigation by members of the Safe Streets Task Force into Purnell’s alleged illegal firearm possession and drug sales that began in January.

On January 27, at about 5:20 p.m., officers reportedly observed Purnell in the 200 block of West 29th Street. After making contact, Purnell was taken into custody without incident. He was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and 4 grams of marijuana.

Purnell has been charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and receiving a stolen firearm.

Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Purnell was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $45,000 cash-only bail.

As the case unfolds, details may change. It’s crucial to remember that information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest does not equate to a declaration of guilt. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
