West Chester Police Successfully Disarm and Apprehend Intoxicated Man

WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Police Department handled a potentially dangerous situation with skill and professionalism on the evening of October 19, 2023. At around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a call for a well-being check on an intoxicated subject in the 600 block of W. Miner Street.

The criminal complaint alleges that, upon arrival, officers encountered Stephen Johnson, a 32-year-old resident of West Chester, who was armed with a rifle. In a testament to their training and commitment to public safety, the officers managed to disarm and take Johnson into custody without any incident.

Following his arrest, Johnson was transported to the West Chester Police Department for processing. The charges against him include simple assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, and public drunkenness. After processing, Johnson was transferred to the Chester County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is pending at District Court 15-1-01. The case is documented under the report ID WC-23-32562.
