Tragic Murder-Suicide Case Unfolds in Chester County

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County District Attorney’s Office and the West Goshen Township Police Department have launched an investigation into the deaths of two individuals. The victims were discovered in a residence in West Goshen Township, Chester County, on the afternoon of January 2, 2024.

At around 4:15 p.m., the police responded to a request to check the wellbeing of a 41-year-old male named Derek Calzadillas. Concerned relatives had not heard from him for over 24 hours, leading to the welfare call. Upon reaching the 400 block of Hightop Road, West Goshen, officers received no response at the door but noticed an unresponsive male through a window.

The officers entered the home and called for additional emergency medical services. Responding units included Goshen Fire Company, Goshen Ambulance, and Good Fellowship Ambulance and EMS. The unresponsive individual was identified as 22-year-old resident Kai O’Connor. He was swiftly transported to the Chester County Hospital by EMS, where he was later pronounced dead.

In a grim discovery, Derek Calzadillas was found deceased inside a closet in the home. The case is currently being treated as a murder-suicide by investigators, who reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat. It appears that firearms were not involved in this tragic incident.
