NEWARK, DE — Delaware State Police have charged a 17-year-old Newark male in connection with two early morning burglaries at The Smoke Shop in Salem Village Square.
Authorities reported that on September 23, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., troopers responded to the business for a burglary in progress. Investigators determined that a suspect wearing a facemask forced entry into the store and stole electronic cigarettes and related products valued at about $2,000.
The following day, September 24, at approximately 4:00 a.m., troopers were called back to the same location for another burglary. Police said the incident was similar in nature, with the suspect again forcing entry and taking approximately $2,000 in merchandise.
Through investigative methods, detectives identified the 17-year-old suspect as being involved in both burglaries. A warrant was obtained for his arrest, and he was taken into custody on September 30.
The teen was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2, where he was charged with two counts each of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools involving unlawful entry, felony theft, and criminal mischief. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
All charges are allegations, and a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
