CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Pennsylvania State Police at the Embreeville barracks investigated a series of traffic crashes across Chester County in mid-January, with icy conditions, alleged unsafe speeds, and driver errors cited as contributing factors in multiple incidents.
On January 14, shortly after midnight, troopers responded to a crash on Downingtown Pike near Old Shadyside Road in West Bradford Township. Police allege a vehicle left its lane of travel during snowy conditions, struck a rock embankment, and overturned. Two occupants were transported to Paoli Hospital for treatment of possible injuries. The driver was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to state police.
Another crash was reported January 15 at approximately 5:44 a.m. on Downingtown Pike just southeast of Romig Road, also in West Bradford Township. Investigators allege a driver lost control while traveling eastbound, crossed into the opposite lane, struck a guide rail, and rolled into an embankment. Police said the driver fled the scene before troopers arrived. The vehicle was later towed due to disabling damage.
Troopers also investigated a two-vehicle crash on January 16 at about 7:22 a.m. on the Coatesville–Downingtown Bypass in Downingtown Borough. Police allege one driver followed another too closely, resulting in a rear-end collision. No injuries were reported, though both vehicles sustained damage.
In Charlestown Township on January 18, shortly after 7:15 a.m., state police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hollow Road near an unnamed intersection. Investigators allege the driver failed to stop at a snow-covered stop sign, left the roadway, and struck a tree stump. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle was towed.
Additional crashes were reported later that day and into January 19 along U.S. Route 202 in East Whiteland Township. Police allege multiple drivers were operating vehicles without valid licenses or registrations when collisions occurred. In each case, troopers reported no injuries, though vehicles sustained functional or disabling damage and were removed from the roadway.
Another two-vehicle crash was investigated January 19 on Horseshoe Pike west of New Village Green Drive in Honey Brook Township. Police allege one driver attempted to pass another vehicle and struck it, causing both vehicles to sustain damage. No injuries were reported, and one driver was cited.
The final reported crash occurred January 21 on the U.S. 30 Bypass near the Reeceville Road exit in Caln Township. Investigators allege a vehicle left the travel lane for unknown reasons, crossed a grassy median, and struck a guide rail. No injuries were reported, though the vehicle sustained disabling damage.
All crashes remain under investigation unless otherwise noted. Any traffic citations, arrests, or criminal allegations referenced are allegations only. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
