AVONDALE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police at Avondale responded to a series of crashes, school-related incidents, and a childline investigation across southern Chester County between January 17 and February 11, according to a multi-page public information release.
Among the incidents detailed in the report were multiple weather-related crashes.
On February 11 at approximately 8:13 a.m., troopers investigated a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Wharton Drive and Route 926 in Thornbury Township. According to the crash synopsis on page 2 of the release, a 2014 Mazda 3 turning left from Wharton Drive allegedly entered the path of a southbound Chevrolet Traverse traveling on Route 926. The vehicles collided, causing disabling damage to both. No injuries were reported, and the operator of the Mazda was cited.
Later that day at approximately 5:38 p.m., troopers responded to East Street at State Route 82 in East Marlborough Township. A 2021 Toyota Venza attempting to turn left was allegedly struck by a 2002 Chevrolet Express. One driver sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Chester County Hospital.
Snow-covered roadways were cited in several additional crashes. On February 8 at approximately 8:36 p.m., troopers responded to Hutchinson Road in New London Township. According to the synopsis on page 7, a Honda Accord lost traction in snow, slid into the opposite lane, and collided with another vehicle. No injuries were reported.
In East Nottingham Township on February 10 at approximately 6:39 p.m., a Chevrolet Silverado allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at Frog Hollow Road and Oxford Road, striking a Honda Accord. One vehicle sustained disabling damage, and a citation was issued.
Troopers also reported a DUI-related crash on January 18 at approximately 3:24 a.m. on the Kennett Oxford Bypass (U.S. 1) in London Grove Township. A 22-year-old driver allegedly lost control on a curve and struck a median barrier. According to the report on page 13, the driver displayed indicators of impairment and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. The driver sustained suspected minor injuries.
Another crash occurred January 17 at approximately 5:48 p.m. on Gap Newport Pike in London Grove Township when a Honda Odyssey allegedly traveled onto a shoulder and into a parking lot. No injuries were reported.
In addition to traffic investigations, troopers handled school-related incidents. On February 6 at approximately 10:34 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Avon Grove High School in Penn Township for a reported physical altercation between two students. A 15-year-old female from Avondale was listed as the arrestee, and a 17-year-old female from Lincoln University was listed as the victim. The investigation remains pending.
Later that afternoon at approximately 2:16 p.m., troopers responded to Avon Grove Charter School in London Grove Township after receiving a report that a student allegedly punched another student. A 13-year-old from Parkesburg was listed as the arrestee, and a 12-year-old from Coatesville was listed as the victim. Police reported the investigation is ongoing.
On January 9 at approximately 2:00 p.m., troopers investigated a Childline report in Londonderry Township concerning an incident at the 200 block of Honeycroft Boulevard. The matter remains under investigation.
Additional crashes included a January 30 rear-end collision on Limestone Road in Lower Oxford Township in which a Honda Civic allegedly struck a vehicle slowing for traffic. A citation for following too closely was filed.
All charges and violations referenced in the report are allegations. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant named in these incidents is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
