Police Investigate Midnight Gunfire on Jack Markell Trail in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, DEDelaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident reported early Friday morning along the Jack Markell Trail.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on September 26, 2025, at approximately 12:00 a.m. Troopers responded to the area of Robinson Drive and West Minuit Drive after receiving reports of gunfire. With assistance from the New Castle County Police Department, officers located several spent shell casings on the trail behind a residence on Robinson Drive.

The preliminary investigation indicates that an unknown individual was observed riding a motorbike eastbound on the trail, away from the area, shortly after the gunfire. No injuries or property damage have been reported. At this time, police have not released a description of the suspect or suspects, and no surveillance footage is available.

All criminal allegations remain under investigation, and any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
