HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Michelle Henry announced that the parents of a newborn who died in 2022 have pleaded guilty. The baby boy died two days after birth. Authorities charged the parents and a third person for failing to seek medical help.

Drew Hoenigke, the baby’s father, pleaded guilty to recklessly endangering another person and concealing the death of a child. Amy Hoenigke, the child’s mother, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault.

A Sullivan County judge will impose sentences at a later date.

The baby died on January 17, 2022. Investigators found the child experienced respiratory distress and cardiac arrest. Evidence showed the parents and Brigitte Meckes, the third person charged, knew the baby needed medical help but did not call 9-1-1.

Text messages confirmed all three were aware of the baby’s critical condition.

Senior Deputy Attorney General Jaime Keating is prosecuting the cases. The case against Meckes is pending; she remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
