Man Wanted on Warrant Caught After Alleged Burglary and Foot Chase in Linwood

Arrested

LINWOOD, PA — A 40-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday evening after allegedly attempting to flee the scene of a burglary in progress in Lower Chichester Township, according to local police.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 23, 2025, officers from the Lower Chichester Township Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of East Laughead Avenue for a report of an active burglary. While officers were en route, the suspect was reportedly seen fleeing the property through a rear exit.

A description of the suspect was quickly circulated, and a search of the area commenced. A township police officer soon spotted the individual—later identified as Donald Allen Bernard Jr., 40, of Delaware County—attempting to conceal himself in an alley between Fronefield Avenue and Ervin Avenue, approximately 75 yards east of Summit Avenue.

According to authorities, Bernard attempted to evade capture, prompting a foot pursuit. The chase concluded at the intersection of Fronefield Avenue and Yates Avenue, where officers, with the assistance of the Trainer Borough Police Department, apprehended the suspect without further incident.

While the investigation into the original burglary remains ongoing, officers conducting a routine identity check discovered that Bernard was already wanted on an active bench warrant for a probation violation issued in Delaware County. He was transported to George W. Hill Correctional Facility, where he remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
