Kennett Square Teen Arrested for Alleged Involvement in 2023 Vehicle Theft

Arrest

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The Kennett Square Police Department announced the arrest of 19-year-old Markye Chandler on February 29, 2024. Chandler had been sought on an arrest warrant issued over four months ago, on October 25, 2023. The case is currently pending a preliminary hearing.

Chandler’s arrest stems from an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of September 24, 2022. At approximately 5:20 a.m., Chester County Police Radio dispatched officers to the 300 Block of Marshall Street in Kennett Square Borough, following a report of a vehicle theft in progress. The reporting party described seeing three individuals fleeing from a white Jeep Grand Cherokee left in the roadway and heading westbound on Juniper Street toward S. Broad Street. The suspects were then seen entering a black Ford Explorer.

The swift response of local residents provided officers with video footage of the incident. Officers also managed to recover multiple fingerprints from the abandoned Grand Cherokee and analyzed a cell phone left behind at the scene. Following a forensic fingerprint analysis, authorities identified four individuals allegedly involved in the incident, including two juvenile males, Etwan Bruce and Markye Chandler.

On October 25, 2023, District Court 15-3-04 issued arrest warrants for Bruce and Chandler in connection with the incident.

Chandler now faces a slew of charges, including two counts of burglary, four counts of criminal trespass, four counts of possessing instruments of crime, two counts of robbery, four counts of theft by unlawful taking, three counts of receiving stolen property, three counts of loitering and prowling at nighttime, and two counts of corruption of minors.
