Kennett Square Man Charged Following Alleged Family Altercation

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The Kennett Square Police Department announced charges against a Kennett Square man following an alleged family altercation that left one individual visibly injured.

Eloy Melendez-Betancourt, 45, is facing charges of Unlawful Restraint, Simple Assault, and Harassment. He is accused of holding down a male family member while another family member allegedly struck the restrained individual.

Upon arrival at the scene in the 300 block of S. Union Street in the early hours of January 14, 2024, officers reportedly found the victim bleeding profusely from their nose, with blood also visible on their face, chest, and hands.

Melendez-Betancourt was subsequently transported to Central Booking at Chester County Prison. Charges were filed at District Court 15-3-04, and the case is currently pending a preliminary hearing.

As part of the ongoing investigation, an arrest warrant for the other male family member allegedly involved in the incident is pending.

It is crucial to note that these are allegations at this stage, and Melendez-Betancourt has not been found guilty of the charges. Like all individuals accused of a crime, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
