KENNETT SQUARE, PA — A man has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses including institutional vandalism and resisting arrest after a series of incidents at the Kennett Library located at 320 E. State Street in Kennett Square Borough.

Colin McKay, 38, was apprehended by Kennett Square Police on November 11, 2023, around 10:39 PM during a routine patrol in the 300 block of East State Street. The area had seen recent acts of vandalism involving abstract art glued to the exterior brick of the library with a heavy adhesive, causing significant damage.

The arrest took place when officers heard a loud metal sound near the library and spotted an individual moving a large metal step ladder. Upon approach, they identified the individual as McKay, who was clad in attire resembling that of a construction worker and carrying a black backpack.

During their interaction, McKay attempted to flee on foot towards Race Street but was promptly detained by the officers. A subsequent search of his belongings revealed a large container filled with adhesive and abstract images strikingly similar to those from the previous incidents.

McKay was taken into custody and multiple charges were filed at District Court 15-3-04, including two counts of institutional vandalism, one count of resisting arrest, two counts of criminal mischief, one count of possessing instruments of crime, and one count of criminal trespass. The case awaits a preliminary hearing.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
