Found Firearm, Late-Night Crashes, and Stops Pack Wyomissing Police Log

Police News

WYOMISSING, PA — A reported “found firearm” investigation, multiple motor vehicle accidents and a string of traffic stops stretching from just after midnight into late evening filled the Wyomissing Police Department’s incident log for January 31, according to the department’s daily blotter.

Police activity began shortly after midnight with traffic enforcement along Penn Avenue. At 12:49 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle near Eighth Avenue for an alleged window-tint violation and issued a warning. About an hour later, at 1:49 a.m., another stop near Wyoming Avenue also involved alleged window-tint issues, again resulting in a warning.

Just after 2 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop at State Hill Road and Route 222 for what officers described as a wide turn. The driver was cited, police reported.

Before daybreak, officers responded to a 911 hang-up call at 4:36 a.m. on Van Reed Road, where an employee told police everything was OK. At 5:55 a.m., an automatic fire alarm on Penn Avenue prompted another response, though police noted the fire department handled the call. A second automatic fire alarm on Penn Avenue was reported later that morning at 8:55 a.m., with the fire department again handling the incident.

The day’s most notable report came shortly after 9 a.m. when police were dispatched at 9:05 a.m. to Reading Boulevard for a suspicious-activity call that the blotter described as a “found firearm.” Officers arrived at 9:10 a.m. and remained on the incident until 11:10 a.m. Police said the firearm was recovered and noted that an incident in an adjacent borough “may be related” to the discarded weapon, though no additional details were provided in the log.

Traffic enforcement continued into the afternoon. At 12:44 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Wyomissing Boulevard for alleged speeding and issued a warning. At 3:15 p.m., another speeding stop occurred on Route 222, again resulting in a warning.

Police also responded to a report at 4:21 p.m. from Woodland Road involving an allegedly abandoned kitten outside a residence. Officers arrived at 4:32 p.m. and reported they found nothing on scene.

In the early evening, a burglar alarm on Merrymount Road in West Lawn was reported at 5:54 p.m. and was cancelled before officers arrived after the correct passcode was provided, police said.

Later, at 6:56 p.m., police responded to a non-reportable crash on Ridgewood Road near Berkshire Boulevard. Officers arrived around 7 p.m. and said both parties indicated they did not want further action and did not need assistance.

As the evening progressed, officers assisted Reading police at 7:58 p.m. with traffic control following what was described as a pursuit-related motor vehicle accident in Reading’s jurisdiction.

More traffic stops followed, including a 8:39 p.m. stop on Penn Avenue near Eighth Avenue for alleged high-beam lighting, resulting in a warning. At 9:30 p.m., police were dispatched to Route 222 for a reportable crash, taking information from both drivers and arranging for one vehicle to be towed.

The night ended with additional enforcement. At 10:18 p.m., police stopped a vehicle on Park Road North near North Wyomissing Boulevard for alleged unsafe speed and window-tint issues and issued a warning. At 11:36 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Penn Avenue near Reading Avenue for an alleged high-beam lighting violation and issued a citation.
