HARRISBURG, PA — A former corrections officer at SCI Forest pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges stemming from assaults on two correctional officers in training during separate incidents in May 2025, Attorney General Dave Sunday announced.
Garrett Smead, 29, of Warren, pleaded guilty to two counts each of indecent assault, indecent exposure, unlawful restraint, and related offenses.
According to the investigation, Smead restrained the two victims by handcuffing them before assaulting them during separate incidents on May 21, 2025.
Prosecutors said Smead removed his clothing during the incidents and sexually assaulted the victims.
In one instance, authorities said Smead wrote “Property of G. Smead” on a victim’s body.
Both victims remained handcuffed until other officers arrived and freed them, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
“The defendant’s actions are betrayals of the responsibility that comes with being a corrections officer,” Sunday said.
A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Stephen Sliger of the Criminal Prosecutions Section.
