AVONDALE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police in Avondale reported a surge of late-January incidents across southern Chester County, ranging from alleged harassment cases and a traffic stop that turned up suspected drugs and paraphernalia to a string of crashes that sent at least one driver to the hospital and left vehicles damaged or towed.
Troopers said that on Friday, January 30, they responded to a 911 hang-up call at a residence on Rosewood Drive in West Fallowfield Township that police later determined was tied to a domestic dispute. Police alleged a 39-year-old man from Atglen pushed a 36-year-old woman during an argument. Troopers reported no visible injuries and said the man was cited for harassment while the incident remained under investigation.
In a separate case, state police said troopers initiated a traffic stop late Thursday morning, January 29, on U.S. Route 1 in Lower Oxford Township and discovered suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Police said the vehicle was towed and the investigation remained ongoing.
Troopers also reported investigating an alleged harassment incident stemming from a verbal dispute between a landlord and tenant along East Baltimore Pike in London Grove Township. Police said one person was charged with harassment and the case remained under investigation.
Meanwhile, crash reports from multiple municipalities show troopers handled a cluster of collisions on Thursday, January 29, and Friday, January 30, including stop-sign and signal-related crashes, roadway departures, and weather-impacted driving.
Among the more serious incidents, police said a driver in London Grove Township suffered an apparent diabetic emergency Thursday morning while traveling on Garden Station Road and lost control, striking a snowbank. Troopers said the driver was transported to ChristianaCare Wilmington Hospital for treatment.
In another Thursday morning crash in London Grove Township, troopers said a driver on State Route 41 south of Church Alley became distracted by a GPS application on a phone, struck a curb, left the roadway, and hit a utility pole. Police said the vehicle was towed and the driver was treated for minor injuries.
Troopers also documented multiple collisions on Friday, January 30, including crashes in Lower Oxford Township, Pennsbury Township, New London Township, and London Grove Township. Those reports included a stop-sign collision at Baltimore Pike and Elkdale Road, a crash on Newark Road at Violet Lane involving an alleged signal violation, and a crash on the Kennett Oxford Bypass off-ramp at Gap Newport Pike. Police said several of the drivers involved reported no injuries and vehicles in some cases were able to leave the scene under their own power.
Other incidents included a Thursday evening roadway departure on Newark Road in West Marlborough Township, where troopers said a driver swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and entered a ditch, damaging property, as well as a Monday, January 26, three-vehicle crash in West Marlborough Township that police said began when a driver failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
All criminal charges and accusations referenced in these reports are allegations. Any suspect or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
