WYOMISSING, PA — Police handled 634 calls for service in January 2026, including criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, and weather-related incidents, according to a report presented by Chief John Phillips to Wyomissing Borough Council.
According to Wyomissing police, the calls included both criminal and non-criminal incidents across retail, commercial, and residential areas. Officers reported 135 calls, or 21.3%, occurred in business and commercial districts, while 36 calls, or 5.7%, were in residential communities.
Police activity included routine patrols, follow-up investigations, traffic enforcement, and complaint investigations, as outlined in the activity breakdown on page 1 of the report. Officers also conducted security checks, court-related duties, and responded to incidents requiring immediate police presence.
According to the report, officers made arrests across multiple categories, including weapons offenses, assaults, DUI, narcotics, and fraud-related incidents. The chart on page 5 shows the highest arrest activity involved theft-related and drug-related offenses, along with incidents categorized under weapons and disorderly conduct.
Police reported a total of 24 arrests in January, with additional charges recorded across Part I and Part II offenses, as detailed in the Uniform Crime Reporting tables on page 6. Authorities stated that clearance rates for cases exceeded 95% for the month.
The report also states that officers responded to several snow-related incidents during January, including vehicle crashes and disabled motorists. Police said officers assisted drivers and investigated accidents during periods of heavy snowfall, while borough crews worked to keep roadways clear.
According to police, the department collaborated with other agencies during the month, including a joint operation with Spring Township Police and the Department of Homeland Security that resulted in approximately 30 arrests. Investigators said the operation targeted individuals accused of soliciting sex, including one person allegedly attempting to solicit a minor.
Police also reported receiving assistance from and providing assistance to multiple law enforcement agencies throughout Berks County and surrounding jurisdictions, as outlined on page 2 of the report.
Community engagement efforts included a planned “Meet the Chief of Police” event scheduled for March 23 at the Wyomissing Public Library, where residents can learn about police operations and fraud prevention strategies, according to the report.
The report further detailed department operations, including patrol hours, training, and administrative duties, reflecting overall workload distribution among officers during the month.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
