PHILADELPHIA, PA — Jared Stanley, a 32-year-old resident of Lindenwold, New Jersey, has pleaded guilty to a series of violent armed robberies in Philadelphia’s Kensington area. United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced that Stanley entered his plea on Friday, October 11, 2024, before United States District Court Judge John F. Murphy. He admitted to three counts of Hobbs Act robbery and one count of carrying, using, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
The robberies, which terrorized the Kensington community, occurred within a brief span in early 2024. On January 21, Stanley targeted the Birch Mini-Market on East Birch Street. Armed with a gun, he assaulted a cashier and made off with approximately $550 after a violent encounter in which he struck the cashier repeatedly.
A week later, on January 28, Stanley, accompanied by an unidentified accomplice, raided Capricorno Grocery on East Orleans Street. During this robbery, Stanley aggressively confronted a store employee, wielding his weapon and causing physical harm while his accomplice emptied the register, taking roughly $500.
The crime spree continued on February 2 at Bonifacios Grocery on Frankford Avenue. Stanley and his partner forced an employee to the ground, pistol-whipping him before stealing another $500 from the store’s cash register.
Stanley’s plea deal has set the stage for his sentencing, scheduled for January 29, 2025. The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in prison, with the potential for life imprisonment. Additionally, Stanley faces five years of supervised release, a fine of up to $1,250,000, and a $500 special assessment.
The investigation leading to Stanley’s arrest was a joint effort by the FBI and the Philadelphia Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Robert E. Eckert.
