NEW CASTLE, DE — Authorities have charged a Wilmington man following an alleged assault on a crossing guard in the Garfield Park community.
The incident occurred on the morning of May 21, 2025, at approximately 8:25 a.m., near the intersection of Halcyon Drive and Chase Avenue. Officers responded to reports that a 75-year-old crossing guard had been physically assaulted and threatened by a man while performing traffic control duties.
Through video surveillance and investigative efforts, law enforcement identified the suspect as 25-year-old Darjuan Saleem-Connor of Wilmington. Authorities allege that Saleem-Connor threatened and made physical contact with the crossing guard, as well as failed to comply with lawful instructions from the victim.
Following the investigation, Saleem-Connor was taken into custody at his residence and transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters. He was subsequently charged with the following offenses:
- Terroristic Threatening Involving a Victim 62 Years or Older
- Offensive Touching
- Menacing
- Failure to Obey an Authorized Person Directing Traffic
Saleem-Connor appeared before Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was released on $700 unsecured bail pending further court proceedings.
Authorities remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
