WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have identified the man who died in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday night as 19-year-old Kadir Skinner of Wilmington.
According to police, officers on patrol in the area of 24th and Jessup streets at approximately 11:12 p.m. observed a large crowd gathered in the area.
Investigators reported that officers then saw Skinner allegedly exit a residence armed with a handgun and point the firearm toward the crowd.
Police said officers approached Skinner, who allegedly fled on foot. During the ensuing pursuit, an officer discharged a department-issued firearm, striking him.
Skinner was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.
Investigators reported recovering a loaded handgun from the scene. The involved officer was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Wilmington Police Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards and the Delaware Department of Justice.
In accordance with department policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, police said.
Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
