Wilmington Man Faces Gun Charges After Shots-Fired Incident

WILMINGTON, DE — A 30-year-old man faces multiple felony charges following a reported shooting in Wilmington and an arrest two days later during which police allege he resisted officers.

Wilmington police said officers with the Uniformed Services Division responded at approximately 10:08 a.m. Sept. 29 to the area of West Fourth and North Scott streets for a report of shots fired.

The case was assigned to Detective Ryan Kilmon of the Criminal Investigations Division, who subsequently identified Wesley Martinez, 30, as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest, according to police.

On Oct. 1, members of the Safe Streets Task Force located Martinez in the 1600 block of Lancaster Avenue. Police said Martinez allegedly resisted arrest before officers took him into custody.

Martinez was charged with first-degree reckless endangering, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, obstruction of justice, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, criminal mischief involving more than $1,000 in damage, offensive touching of law enforcement and resisting arrest.

Police did not provide additional details about the circumstances of the reported shooting or whether anyone was injured.

Martinez was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $66,500 cash-only bail, according to police.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
