WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested a city man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred over the summer, following a months-long investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Authorities said that on July 21, 2025, at approximately 10:02 p.m., officers from the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 700 block of North Franklin Street after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found 50-year-old Donnell Seeney suffering from a gunshot wound. Seeney was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.
The investigation was assigned to Detective Derek Haines, who, through investigative efforts, identified 31-year-old Nicodemus Morris as a suspect. On September 2, 2025, the case was presented to a New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment against Morris.
Police executed a search warrant on October 28 in the 500 block of West 24th Street, where Morris was taken into custody without incident.
Morris has been charged with First-Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $1,100,000 cash-only bail.
The Wilmington Police Department has not released additional details about the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting, noting that the investigation remains ongoing.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
