WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested three men on a series of gun-related offenses after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a loaded firearm earlier this week.
According to officials, members of the Safe Streets Task Force conducted a vehicle stop in the 400 block of Spruce Street at approximately 11:23 a.m. on July 2. During the stop, officers made contact with the driver, identified as 18-year-old Ahjir Black. Authorities noted that Black was wanted on an unrelated matter and was taken into custody without incident.
Further investigation at the scene led to the arrest of two passengers: 18-year-old Ahmaj Boyd and 19-year-old Kevin Nash. During the course of the investigation, police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from the vehicle.
Black now faces additional charges, including possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. Following arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $11,000 cash-only bail.
Boyd was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, as well as carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was also arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $20,000 cash-only bail.
Nash was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was similarly arraigned and committed on $10,000 cash-only bail.
The arrests underscore ongoing efforts by Wilmington Police to address gun violence and reduce illegal firearm possession throughout the city.
All charges are allegations, and Ahjir Black, Ahmaj Boyd, and Kevin Nash are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
