WILMINGTON, DE — A 12-year-old boy has been charged following a BB gun shooting that left a teenager with a serious eye injury, according to Wilmington Police.
Police reported that officers responded to a hospital at approximately 3 a.m. on June 15 after receiving information that a 14-year-old male had been shot with a BB gun while in the 700 block of South Buttonwood Street.
According to investigators, the victim suffered a serious eye injury as a result of the incident.
Police said detectives identified a 12-year-old male as a suspect during the investigation and obtained warrants for his arrest.
On June 16, officers responded to the 1100 block of B Street, where the juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident, according to police. Investigators also reported recovering the BB gun allegedly used in the shooting.
The juvenile has been charged with second-degree assault.
According to police, the suspect was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and released on $2,000 unsecured bail pending further court proceedings.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
