WALLINGFORD, PA — Nether Providence Township police are investigating allegations of potentially inappropriate communications between a substitute teacher and students in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, prompting the teacher’s removal from district schools.
Police said district leadership contacted law enforcement after learning of allegations involving a substitute teacher who had worked with a limited number of students.
According to the school district, the individual was employed through a contracted staffing agency rather than directly by the district.
The district reported that the staffing agency placed the substitute teacher on leave and that the individual will not be permitted to return to district schools.
Police have not disclosed the nature of the alleged communications, the number of students involved, or the identity of the substitute teacher. Authorities said they are withholding additional information to protect student privacy and the integrity of the investigation.
Anyone with information relevant to the allegations is asked to contact the Nether Providence Township Police Department’s Detective Division at 610-892-2875.
Police also encouraged parents and guardians to remind students to report interactions or communications that make them uncomfortable or concerned to a trusted adult.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
