EMBREEVILLE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police in Embreeville reported a series of incidents across Chester County in late January, February, March, and early April, including alleged thefts, harassment, child endangerment, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, a suicide-related emergency, and arrests tied to a traffic stop and an assault investigation.
According to state police, troopers responded at 9:38 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, to Prizer Road in East Nantmeal Township for a reported theft. Investigators said a 65-year-old woman from Chester Springs reported that six checks were fraudulently forged and cashed by unknown individuals between March 23 and March 25, resulting in a loss of $5,800.
Police also reported that at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, March 1, troopers responded to Pottstown Pike in South Coventry Township for a theft report. According to investigators, a 39-year-old woman from Spring City reported losing approximately $30,000 in cryptocurrency.
In Tredyffrin Township, troopers conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 202 South near mile marker 24.1 at 11:35 a.m. Monday, March 30. State police said a 24-year-old Philadelphia man was taken into custody on an active warrant from Magisterial District Court 15-4-01 and committed to Chester County Prison. Police also reported that a passenger was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana and related paraphernalia and was released pending a court summons. Charges were filed at Magisterial District Court 15-4-01.
State police said troopers were dispatched at approximately 2:55 a.m. Friday, April 3, to 1st Avenue in South Coatesville Borough for a domestic incident. According to investigators, a 38-year-old Philadelphia man was issued a non-traffic citation for harassment involving a 49-year-old Downingtown woman, and the parties were separated. The citation was filed at Magisterial District Court 15-1-03.
In Honey Brook Township, troopers responded at 5:19 p.m. Friday, March 6, to Six Point Court for an assault investigation. Police said 41-year-old Justin Young of Honey Brook allegedly chased an 8-year-old girl on foot while making threats and attempting to grab her. Investigators said Young was later located operating a 2021 Ford, taken into custody, and observed exhibiting signs of intoxication. Police reported he was transported to Chester County Hospital for a blood draw, then to PSP Embreeville for processing, and later to Chester County Prison.
Police also reported a child endangerment case in Honey Brook Township at 3:48 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, on Cupola Road. According to investigators, 21-year-old Wendell Cortlessa of Honey Brook allegedly left his two sons, ages 2 years and 6 months, home alone and unsupervised for about five hours. Troopers said Cortlessa was not at the residence when they arrived, and an arrest warrant was issued.
In Warwick Township, state police responded at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, to Saint Peters Road after a juvenile girl reportedly made suicidal statements while in possession of a firearm. Police said the situation was resolved safely and the juvenile was transported for a mental health evaluation.
Troopers are also investigating an alleged scam reported at 4:00 p.m. Monday, March 2, on Woodland Drive in Honey Brook Township. According to state police, 81-year-old Rose Simmers of Honey Brook paid $1,600 by check to a company claiming to provide curtain installation services, but the work was not completed and the company stopped responding to attempts at contact.
Another alleged fraud case was reported at 4:40 p.m. Friday, January 30, on Ridge Road in Warwick Township. Police said 73-year-old David Smith of Pottstown lost $47.69 after pop-up messages falsely claimed his phone had been hacked and directed him to purchase security software. State police said no suspect information was available and reminded the public not to enter personal or financial information into suspicious pop-ups or websites.
In Honey Brook Borough, troopers responded at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, March 7, to the 100 block of Dorshiemer Lane for a report of criminal mischief. According to investigators, a 62-year-old Honey Brook man reported that an unknown projectile struck the siding of his residence, causing about $100 in damage. Police said no suspects had been identified.
State police also responded at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, to Walmart at 100 Commons Drive in West Sadsbury Township for a report of a woman making threats. Police said 48-year-old Desiree Corle of Coatesville, who had previously been detained and released for retail theft, returned to the store, became upset after being denied use of a phone, and shouted a statement that staff interpreted as concerning. Investigators said Corle later admitted making a frustrated remark but denied intending it as a threat. A non-traffic citation for disorderly conduct was issued.
In West Bradford Township, troopers responded at 5:03 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, to the 1300 block of Romig Road for an attempted vehicle theft. State police said an unknown person allegedly attempted to steal a 2013 white International Coach S.T.E.M. Lab school bus owned by the Downingtown Area School District. The investigation remains ongoing.
Police are also investigating a harassment case reported at 7:34 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, on Lafayette Avenue in South Coatesville Borough. According to investigators, a 25-year-old Coatesville woman reported receiving contacts from more than 90 randomly generated phone numbers.
State police said all of the incidents remain under investigation unless otherwise noted.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
