Overturned Car Crash Ends With Assault and DUI Charges

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington woman is facing assault and DUI charges following a single-vehicle crash that left two people hospitalized, police said.

According to Wilmington Police, officers responded at about 7:29 a.m. on June 27 to the area of South Park Drive and North Van Buren Street for a report of a single-vehicle collision.

When officers arrived, they found an overturned vehicle and four people who had been occupants of the car at the time of the crash, police said.

Authorities reported that two occupants, including the driver, identified as Zaahidah Muhammad, 27, were transported to a hospital in stable condition. The other two occupants declined medical treatment.

The investigation was assigned to the department’s Traffic Unit within the Special Operations Division.

Following the investigation, Muhammad was charged with first-degree vehicular assault, two counts of second-degree vehicular assault and driving under the influence, in addition to traffic citations.

Court records show Muhammad was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $4,000 unsecured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
