One Dead After Shooting at Wilmington Hospital; Suspect Held

WILMINGTON, DE — One of two people wounded in a shooting at Wilmington Hospital has died, and a suspect has been taken into custody in Philadelphia, according to Wilmington Police.

Police initially responded Tuesday to Wilmington Hospital in the 500 block of West 14th Street after reports of a shooting. Authorities temporarily locked down the hospital and urged the public to avoid the area while officers secured the scene and conducted their investigation.

According to police, investigators located two gunshot victims. One victim later succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have not released the identities of either victim, and information regarding the surviving victim’s condition is being withheld while family notifications are completed.

Police reported that a 23-year-old male suspect was taken into custody in Philadelphia. Charges have not yet been filed, and extradition proceedings to Delaware are pending.

According to investigators, preliminary findings indicate the shooting was a targeted and isolated incident.

The hospital lockdown has since been lifted, and police have cleared the scene.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
