Masked Group Confronts Man, Sparks Violent Street Assault

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a group of individuals accused of assaulting a 20-year-old man during an early morning encounter on Broad Street.

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 2:58 a.m. on April 20 in the 1500 block of Broad Street.

Investigators reported that the victim, a 20-year-old male, was approached by a large group of unknown males wearing dark clothing and ski masks, who allegedly asked how much his sneakers cost.

Police said the group then told the victim they would buy the sneakers immediately. When the victim refused and began walking away, one of the suspects allegedly struck him.

According to investigators, the victim continued walking but was struck again before entering a nearby building with security.

Police reported that the group followed the victim inside and allegedly attacked him, causing a cut to his upper lip and an injury to his right hand. Authorities said nothing was taken during the incident.

The suspects were described by police as multiple Black males wearing dark clothing and dark ski masks.

Police stated that the investigation is ongoing and have released video and still images in an effort to identify those involved.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
