Maryland Man Jailed on Child Exploitation Charges in Delaware

WILMINGTON, DE — New Castle County Police arrested a Maryland man following an overnight investigation in Banning Park involving a juvenile female.

According to investigators, officers conducting proactive patrol at approximately 2:19 a.m. Wednesday observed a vehicle occupied by two individuals near the dog park area of Banning Park on Middleboro Road.

Police identified one occupant as 22-year-old Majdi Jones of Northeast, Maryland. Investigators later confirmed the second occupant was a 12-year-old female.

Jones was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit continued the investigation, according to police.

Investigators alleged Jones had communicated with the juvenile through social media prior to the encounter.

Following the investigation, police charged Jones with multiple felony sex offense charges involving a minor, as well as misdemeanor trespassing in a county park after dark.

According to police, Jones was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 02 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $200,100 cash bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
