WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing a criminal mischief charge after police say officers witnessed him allegedly breaking into a parked vehicle before he fled on foot.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers were on patrol at approximately 3:30 a.m. July 8 near the intersection of 9th and North Market streets when they observed Joseph Hoffmaster, 38, allegedly breaking into a parked vehicle.
Police said Hoffmaster fled when officers attempted to make contact with him but was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit without further incident.
Hoffmaster was charged with criminal mischief involving damage under $1,000.
Police said he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released after posting $500 unsecured bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
