Man Accused of Drug Offenses After Wilmington Foot Chase

WILMINGTON, DE — A 28-year-old man is accused of drug-related offenses after fleeing from a traffic stop and being taken into custody, according to Wilmington Police.

Police reported that officers with the Uniformed Services Division conducted a vehicle stop around 10:38 a.m. April 10 near West 5th and North Dupont streets for an equipment violation.

According to investigators, officers attempted to make contact with the driver, who allegedly fled on foot. Police stated the individual was apprehended a short time later without further incident and identified as Jayquan Gonzalez.

Authorities reported that officers recovered approximately 11 grams of crack cocaine and 0.87 grams of heroin.

Police stated that Gonzalez is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, resisting arrest, and tampering with physical evidence, in addition to traffic violations.

According to police, Gonzalez was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
