Hotel Stay Ends in Theft Charge Over Unpaid $3,500 Bill

SINKING SPRING, PA — A Berks County woman is facing a theft charge after police investigated a report of an unpaid hotel bill totaling more than $3,500, according to Spring Township police.

Police said officers responded May 29 to the Homewood Suites after receiving a report that a guest was refusing to leave the property after allegedly failing to pay her hotel bill.

According to investigators, the unpaid balance totaled $3,561.43. Following an investigation, police charged Candace Schoppy, 45, with theft of services.

Police said Schoppy was arrested June 8.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
