Handgun Report Sparks Fear at Wilmington Apartment Complex

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington woman is facing felony charges after police say she allegedly displayed and pointed a handgun in a parking lot Saturday afternoon.

New Castle County police said officers responded at approximately 2:35 p.m. July 4 to the 600 block of Robinson Lane in the Maryland Park Apartment community for a report of a person displaying and pointing a handgun.

According to police, officers confirmed that the suspect had allegedly displayed the handgun before leaving the area. Police said officers obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle and located it a short time later on Maryland Avenue.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Yadisha Rojas, 25, of Wilmington, according to police. During the investigation, officers reported recovering a loaded 9mm handgun from the vehicle.

Rojas was taken into custody without incident and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters. She was charged with three felony counts of aggravated menacing, one felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and one felony count of carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Police said Rojas was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution after failing to post $65,000 secured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
