BROOMALL, PA — A 20-year-old man faces terroristic threats and simple assault charges after police say reports of a person pointing what appeared to be a large gun prompted the evacuation of a Broomall Walmart on Wednesday.
Marple Township police were dispatched to the Walmart at 400 S. State Road at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30 for a report of a person carrying a large gun.
While officers were responding, police received additional information that the person was pointing the gun as though he was going to shoot and that the store was being evacuated.
Officers from Marple Township and surrounding agencies arrived and located the individual outside the store without a weapon, according to police. He was taken into custody without incident and identified as Taeshawn Salmon, 20.
Police subsequently located the reported weapon inside the Walmart and identified it as an all-black BB gun rifle.
Salmon was charged with terroristic threats and simple assault. Police said he remained in custody awaiting arraignment.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
