HARRISBURG, PA — A former contracted IT technician for Peters Township School District was sentenced Monday to four to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to two felony counts of sexual abuse of children in a case involving child sexual abuse material found at his home, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
Jason Wayne Ayres, 48, was sentenced by a Washington County judge. The Attorney General’s Office stated that the charged conduct did not involve students in the school district.
Ayres was working as a contracted IT technician for Peters Township School District when he was arrested.
The investigation began after the Attorney General’s Office received a tip last year about file-sharing activity at Ayres’ home. Investigators later executed a search warrant at his Washington residence, according to the office.
Ayres was taken into custody at a school and admitted having child sexual abuse material on a laptop, the Attorney General’s Office reported.
“This defendant worked among students and in a school setting while he possessed at his home files depicting horrific acts involving young children,” Attorney General Dave Sunday said.
As part of the sentence, Ayres will be required to register as a sex offender for 15 years following his release from prison.
Deputy Attorney General Alison Bragle of the Child Predator Section prosecuted the case.
