WILMINGTON, DE — A 24-year-old man faces drug and firearm charges after Wilmington police reported recovering heroin, cash and a loaded handgun during an investigation July 9.
Members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division were in the 700 block of North Jefferson Street at approximately 10:23 a.m. when they allegedly observed a man involved in suspected drug activity, according to police.
Officers contacted Nahceer Lopez, 24, and took him into custody without incident, police reported. Investigators allege that officers recovered 3.12 grams of heroin and $1,328 in cash.
Police subsequently executed a search warrant in the 400 block of East Third Street, where investigators reported recovering a loaded 9mm handgun.
Lopez was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, Tier 2, and possession of a controlled substance, Tier 2.
Following his arraignment in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Lopez was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $24,000 cash-only bail, according to police.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
