Child Assault Report in Wilmington Ends With Man Jailed

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing multiple charges after police said he assaulted a child in downtown Wilmington and then resisted arrest.

According to Wilmington Police, members of the Downtown Unit responded at about 9:30 a.m. on June 23 to the 700 block of North Market Street for a report of a disorderly person.

Upon arriving, officers made contact with a victim who reported that a man had allegedly assaulted the victim’s child, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Adeyemi Adedoyin, 35. Police said officers made contact with Adedoyin and took him into custody after he allegedly resisted arrest.

Adedoyin was charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree assault, offensive touching and resisting arrest.

Court records show he was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $7,000 secured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
