KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate freedom, culture, and community at the Juneteenth Jubilee on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The event, running from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, will transform State Street in uptown Kennett Square into a lively pedestrian area filled with music, performances, and cultural activities.
This year’s Juneteenth Jubilee, held in conjunction with the monthly Third Thursday event, commemorates June 19, 1865, the day the last enslaved African Americans in the U.S. learned of their freedom. The celebration aims to honor Black culture, resilience, and achievement through a rich and inclusive program.
Attendees can enjoy African drumming, dance performances, Double Dutch demonstrations, and a historical interpreter. Local Black-owned food vendors will serve traditional fare, and a variety of crafts, clothing, and interactive activities will be available. Renowned musician and DJ Wayne James will perform a special Juneteenth set to add to the festivities.
Local organizations like the Kennett Heritage Center, Kennett Underground Railroad Center, and Kennett Area Community Services collaborated to organize this year’s event. Carol A. Black, President of MLKCommUNITY of the Greater Kennett Area, highlighted the event’s growth over the years. “What started as a small gathering has turned into a regional celebration of culture and freedom,” she said.
The event is free and open to all, offering an opportunity to celebrate unity, diversity, and history. Whether you visit for the performances, food, or cultural connections, Kennett Square’s Juneteenth Jubilee has something for everyone.
