WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Sheriff’s Office announced enhancements to its Special Operations Units, highlighting its commitment to proactive law enforcement and public safety. These specialized teams are integral to addressing high-risk situations, apprehending dangerous suspects, and protecting the community.
“Our Special Operations Units are a critical force multiplier for the county,” said Sheriff Kevin Dykes. “They allow us to respond swiftly, strategically, and safely in the most complex and urgent scenarios while continuing to build trust through professional and disciplined policing.”
The Sheriff’s Office is investing in multiple areas to enhance its operational capabilities:
Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU): This unit focuses on locating and capturing individuals with outstanding warrants, particularly for serious and violent crimes. Collaborating with local, state, and federal agencies, the FAU uses intelligence-driven strategies to minimize threats to public safety.
Motorcycle Unit: Designed for high-visibility patrols and rapid response, this unit also supports special events, motorcades, and public engagement. Deputies in this unit are highly trained in defensive operations and motorcade coordination.
K-9 Unit: With five certified K-9s, including two from Chester County Prison, this expanding unit provides support in narcotics detection, suspect tracking, and evidence recovery. Additionally, the K-9 Unit plays a vital role in community outreach and education.
Field Force Operations Unit: Focused on managing large-scale events and civil unrest, this unit prioritizes de-escalation and public order. Equipped with three certified instructors, it ensures deputies receive specialized training for effective crowd control and incident management.
Protective Intelligence Unit: Dedicated to identifying and mitigating potential threats to public officials and high-risk locations, this unit leverages intelligence gathering and interagency coordination to strengthen preventative measures.
